indulgence...

consists of:

1)a PAID SUBSCRIPTION to the STI (Straits Times Interactive). Paid by daddy's credit card, of course (and i will certainly pay him back when he comes this friday :D)

!!!!

Cannot take it lah. Poor overseas student starved for news on the going-ons and happenings of home country. A certain state newspaper, in my humble opinion, seems to cater mostly to AFL and trashy sensational news that is just not engaging enough. Not that I am being critical of Australian news, for that matter. Well, maybe just a little.Hehe.

But after not reading the newspaper for three months, i got a little homesick. OK, i know there's CNA, and that tabloid that Singaporean guys like to read from the back pages in the bus and MRT.

But what i can't really get from the other two, are the quirky little articles that paint a portrait of Singapore's streets, the 'little' people like me, the heartlanders, the latest announcements, overseas trips,of the high-and-mighty-and-important, wet markets and kopitiams (coffee shops). Geez, I usually read everything, even news like which nerdy kid got the best PSLE score for the year 2005, what new animal was donated by who to the zoo, some 100 year old auntie who collects cardboard boxes to sell.. you get my drift. So what if i'm not intellectual enough for some of you? So i don't read The Economist or Newsweek(I might if i had the money to subscribe to them but knowing me i'll be too darn lazy to read.) So be it! And you know, after not reading the STI for so long, i get a warm fuzzy feeling inside, especially when its below 15 degrees and storming outside.

Surely $SGD36 for 6 months is worth that while.:-)

2) Arrested Development!!

No, not the African-American group that had that the radio hits "Mr Wendal" and "Everyday People" back in 1993/94. I'm guessing that most of you probably dunno what i'm talking about so nvm.

Yes, Arrested Development, the story about the family who lost everything. An extremely comical satire on a nouveau rich upper-class family whose head of the household got arrested for digging into company funds for personal reasons. Except it wasn't just him, but most of the rest of the family as well. So it's up to the only sane one in the family, Michael Bluth to salvage the business situation, and his family. In the meantime, George "Daddy" Bluth is living it up in the state prison, Lucille "Mom" Bluth is being the insecure, conivving bitch that she is by causing dissension between her kids and refusing to reveal important company information to Michael, Lindsay 'Activist',('Goldilocks'Portia De Rossi!)Bluth Funke regularly abuses the company accounts and pretends to save the planet and humanity, her gormless husband Tobias 'the Actor' Funke who, well, isn't an actor but desperately wants to be one (he even wanted to audition at his daughter's high school play), Gob 'pronounced Job not Gor-b' Bluth tries to work his magic for a living (because he is a magician by trade) but unfortunately, keeps failing, Buster 'Mommy's Boy' Bluth finds true love with his mother's best friend 'Luceille no.2' (singer Liza Minneli)who suffers severe vertigo that complements his panic attacks, George Michael 'Mr Manager' Bluth (Michael's son) has a hard time saying no to his cousin, May be? Cousin Maybe 'Rebel to get attention' Funke thinks the only way to get her parents to remember she exists is by buying leather suits and kissing her cousin George Michael....

and there you go. Nuf said, my commentary sucks! Go watch! Humour: very dry, very American, very witty, very, very funny. You just have to watch it! love it or hate it, i guess. New words to add to my vocabulary: "near-nude" and "corn-baller". :P

P.S. I just finished browsing through an article in STI entitled "Young PAP draws entrepreneurs". Young PAP, for the uninformed, is the youth wing of the People's Action Party. So if there is PAP, and Young PAP, and we colloquially term PAP as the gahmen, doesn't that make the Young PAP xiao gahmen? Hurhur, geddit?

Ok i'll quit being stupid and go to sleep. Goonigh.
